Vintage Video: Garrincha

I'm a bit short on time today so here's a vintage video of the Brazilian legend, Garrincha.

From Wikipedia:
FIFA considers him the best Brazilian player ever after Pelé. Many eminent football historians in Brazil and around the world refer to him being at least the equal of Pelé. He is also widely regarded as the best dribbler in football history.

Former European Based Players in the Brazilian League

I've always thought that one of the most interesting leagues in the world is the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A. Many of the world's best players get their start in the Brazilian top flight before transferring to Europe. Recently, it seems to be a growing trend for top Brazilian players to return to Brazil from their European adventures for a variety of reasons (Adriano, Robinho, Ronaldo, Roberto Carlos, Fred, etc..)

Journeymen: Romário

Romário. The man who scored 1000 career goals (debatable) had a very well traveled career. It basically went like this: Brazil-Europe-back to Brazil-Europe-back to Brazil-Europe-Back to Brazil etc.. with a few Qatar, USA, and Australian appearances thrown in near the end.

Amazingly, Romário played for Vasco da Gama four different times and for Flamengo three different times. All in all, he had 9 separate stints with Rio-based Brazilian clubs including Fluminense and one 'came out of retirement' appearance for America last year.

Complete Brazilians in Europe: December 2008

Following the recent posts of Brazilians in UEFA leagues 1-5 and 6-10, I decided to take the Brazilians in Europe idea as far as possible and find out how many of the South Americans are in every single top division league in Europe. I can't vouch for 100% accuracy in a few of the lesser known leagues and the leagues that play a summer schedule as the official rosters were not totally up to date, but overall, the majority of these numbers are accurate as of December 2008.
