The Castrol Rankings are really garbage. You find me someone who will say Maxi Rodriguez is the 21st best player in the world and I'll show you someone who is absolutely clueless.

If you look at the Castrol Rankings as a black and white list of the best individual players ranked in order then I agree with you.

Here is some of what they're based on:
"Based on their every touch of the ball on the pitch and assess whether it has a positive or negative impact on a teams ability to score or concede a goal."
"Players gain and lose points for completed and incomplete passes. The number of points added/deducted depends on which zone the ball is passed from and received in."
Also, Champions League games are weighted more than league games so it's not a level playing field for non-CL players.
Based on this I don't think the rankings are meant to say "Maxi Rodriguez is the 21st best individual player in the world (top 5 UEFA leagues only actually)"
More like "Maxi Rodriguez is currently the 21st best player in the top 5 European leagues at getting in to dangerous spots on the field, completing passes and contributing to his team scoring a goal."
Considering every player is ranked the exact same way, I think the rankings are reasonably accurate but only if you base them purely on the statistical criteria that Castrol has set and not from a personal perception of where a player should be ranked on a "best player" list.
I don't know if what I just said makes any sense, but at least I know what I'm trying to say...
How can you place Benzema at # 2.... ? Ahead of CR7 and players like Van Persie or David Villa. This shows that there is something wrong with the rankings. Clearly.
