What a stupid index. Tomasson has been poor and Cannavaro has been awful.
ReplyDeleteIMO, you have to keep this list in context. Making the 33+ top ten list doesn't necessarily mean the player was that great because none of these 'old' players have been 'top' players at the WC.
ReplyDeleteFor instance, Tomasson was only ranked the 26th best forward at the WC and Cannavaro was only the 44th best defender yet they make the top ten of the Old Guy list. I personally think that is a decent ranking of their performance.
For the record, I agree that they were both poor compared to their usual standards but that doesn't mean they weren't amongst the better old players.
You should compared players some other way instead
