A map and list of World Cup 2010 players who were born in nations that did not make it to South Africa but still made the trip with their adopted national teams. If you include these 'foreign' players, there are 48 different nations represented at this year's World Cup (50 if you count Greenland and French Guiana, which are technically considered parts of Denmark and France respectively).

Mesut Ozil (GER)
Eren Derdiyok (SUI)
Gokhan Inler (SUI)
This particular post only includes players that were born in a foreign country.
ReplyDeleteIf I were to include players of foreign descents, the list would be much longer.
Tasci and Ozil were born in Germany and Derdiyok and Inler were born in Switzerland so they weren't included here.
Tasci & Özil are born in Germany.
ReplyDeleteDerdiyok & Inler are born in Switzerland.
khaled belhrouz is from morocco i guess!!
ReplyDeletePodolski, Klose, Trochowski all were born in Poland and now play for Germany.
ReplyDeleteKhalid Boulahrouz is of Moroccan descent but was born in the Netherlands.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe I missed the Polish-born German trio. I must have posted that info at TB11 at least 3 or 4 times before. I'm fired, and then rehired so I can fix it.
Thanks
The Klose and Podolski-issue is different because you can barely deny the links between those countries and heritage.
ReplyDeleteIt's correct that Özil and Tasci haven't been included as "Turks". Germany has ius solis.
